Behind the Writing of To Bind Fire

Tell us about the background for the story, what inspired it or why you wanted to write this story.

I was inspired by many things; the curl of flames devouring wood in our homestead woodstove, the powerful works of amazing fantasy authors who have gone before, and my own inner longing to fill a blank page till it reflects the colors of my soul.

Tell us about a theme within your work and why you wanted to highlighted in this book.

This book focuses on the power of an individual’s choice. Often, attempts are made to strip our freedom of choice from us, to silence us, make us believe we deserve what we’ve been put through; but no one can truly take away our power of choice because it is a gift from God.

Which of the side characters would you love to explore more, or turn into a main character in another series?

Tabin! He’s a deeply flawed character with immense potential and I have plans to give him his own trilogy with a solid redemption arc!

Synopsis:

A powerful imposter. A land torn by war. Their only hope-a child born in innocence. And Iris has killed him.

Iris is a frightened girl thrust into a foreign world by her own terrible mistake.

Besaun is Crown Prince of the Fire Empire who would rather tinker than assume the throne.

Both are fated to save the world.

Iris knows little of her past and less of her heritage, but she knows Fire. It whispers to her, leaping at her urging, delighting her eyes.

But then, fire takes everything from her, and she learns her bloodline’s terrible secret.

Her terrible secret.

Because of her, the world is dying.

But there is hope for them all, if she can face her deepest fear.

If she can master the fire.

To Bind Fire is book one of Empire of Ash and Song series! Perfect for fans of the faith themes of the Chronicles of Narnia, the powerful writing style of A Court of Thorns and Roses, and the clean sweet romance of Caraval!
