Behind the Writing of Murder Takes a Bow
Tell us about the background for the theme, what inspired it or why you wanted to write in this setting, or with play with these tropes?
I spent close to a decade as part of an award-winning magic act performing on cruise ships all over the world. I was lucky enough to travel from Alaska to Venezuela, Bermuda to Tahiti, and many exotic ports of call in between. My time of ships inspired me to write cozy mystery books set on cruise ships and many of my experiences during those years are inspiration for the stories I write.
Are any of your characters based on real people you know?
The Amazon parrot in my cruise ship mystery series, Chico, is based on a rescue parrot who was part of my magic act. A lot of the silly antics that Chico gets into in the book, are based on things that my Chico did. Many of the other characters have bits and pieces of real people I met while working on ships but I am not going to reveal which characters to protect the innocent…or the guilty!
Which of the side characters would you love to explore more, or turn into a main character in another series?
I have an idea for another series staring Hayley, Olivia’s best friend in this book. The series would take place in England, so it would be a wonderful excuse to take a trip and have some adventures!
