Behind the Writing of Druid’s Curse

Tell us about the background for the story, what inspired it or why you wanted to write this story.

Druid’s Curse is the second book in my Trickster Cycle series featuring everyone’s favorite down-on-his-luck druid, Colin McCool. The series is a continuation of the original book series that started with Junkyard Druid. I wrote it with the express purpose of taking Colin out of familiar environs so I could expand my Druidverse® books into new territory.   Are any of your characters based on real people you know?   There’s a little bit of me in every protagonist I write. I’d say Colin represents the highly altruistic yet slightly cynical side of me. The kid is a pragmatist who sees people for who they are, good and bad. Yet, he still gives others the benefit of the doubt and always tries to do the right thing—often to his own detriment. Likewise, I think we all need to see the good in people, to lend a hand and help strangers, and to give people second chances. However, after teaching personal safety and self-defense classes for decades, I know that a small percentage of people are capable of doing some truly heinous things. I never want to lose my faith in humanity’s potential for doing good, but I also never want to forget that evil exists, and that’s what I teach my students. In light of that, it’s always a struggle to balance my cynicism with my desire to look for the positive side of humanity. As a character, Colin definitely reflects this dichotomy.   Tell us about a theme within your work and why you wanted to highlighted in this book.

I’m a sucker for a good redemption arc. I believe people can change, that they can rise above their circumstances, and that free will is a superpower. You’ll see that theme repeat itself again and again in my novels. Amazon Instagram Read Now
