Synopsis:

A half-elf seeks a cure in the mysterious Shadowlands. But there is a greater threat within the shadows, an ancient magic of demons called The Blood.

Kealin Half-Elf has only been like this for a few weeks.

He feels a hunger he never had before…

Before this, he had mastered the power of his ancient Dwemhar heritage and fought an ascended being… but he too was mortally injured. In an act of desperation, vampirism was used to preserve his life and now he must hurry to reverse the effect before he is forever trapped in a state of maniacal blood lust.

But the Shadowlands are not a place for a pale elf… and even more so one that has the ancient Dwemhar blood. Even worse, his traveling companions have their own secrets including the shadow elf Evurn, a mysterious wizard Kealin has only just met.

In the darkness of what is to come, Kealin will have few choices if he is to save himself and those he cares about. But the one choice he might need to make, will mean losing everything else he fights to hold on to.

Sabetha’s Review:

5/5

J.T. Williams has been hyping up this series for MONTHS, and it doesn’t disappoint. Kealin, Evurn & Aeveam are strong characters with back story that I adore. Bringing them together for an adventure to darker territory is seriously my idea of a great book.

In Of Shadow and Blood we meet many faces that look to shape this series into J.T. Williams best yet. I’m stoked to discover more about Elie, and all the rest that make it out of this book. No spoilers from me on that mounting death toll number.

Kealin has shown us in past books that he has what it takes to overcome any obstacle put in the path of his end goal, but the one he faces in this series might be his most trying. I look forward to seeing how it shapes him as a person, and how it affects the relationships he’s built over the years.

This first book is a roller coaster of excellent battle scenes, and death. Which is exactly what I’m here for. I mean ask yourself, what kind of person could over throw the shadowlands? Yeah, that kind of person but worse, this cult level creep fest was hard to put down. Also spiders, I’m all for larger than life spiders, and let’s be honest, any book that gives animals a mind, a voice and a personality is going to be badass.

If you love dark, but deep fantasy, you are going to love this book.
