Behind the Writing of The Coveted Spellbook

Tell us about the background for the theme, what inspired it or why you wanted to write in this setting, or with play with these tropes?

My two obsessions as a teenager were Old Hollywood movies and the 90s witchy show Charmed (I wanted to be a witch so bad). Once I leaned into writing, I knew I had to write a series that would combine both these obsessions. I felt like 1930s witches would be a fresh spin on both historical and paranormal cozies!

Are any of your characters based on real people you know?

I’d say there’s a little bit of me in our four main witches, and I did include some cameos from actors of the era as well.

Tell us about character traits that were fun or hard for you to include in the book.

I think stubbornness is both a gift and a curse. It moves the story forward in terms of solving the mystery, but it also helps with character growth.

Which of the side characters would you love to explore more, or turn into a main character in another series?

Without revealing too much, I’ve been thinking a lot about doing a spinoff series set in the 1990s!

What special knowledge or research was required to write this book?

I’d say I have a pretty decent knowledge of Old Hollywood (watched many movies, read many biographies about actresses of that era) and that did help me create this world. Although I do often have to research mundane things to make sure they existed back in the 1930s!

What do you hope readers will take away from this story?

To value your friendships, trust your gut and enjoy the journey 🙂

A new, unpredictable coven is on the payroll – and they need guidance

A “prop spellbook” on an MGM studio soundstage led to Annabelle making friends and discovering they all have powers up their sleeves. How fun! Now that these gals have found each other though, it’s the spellbook that vanishes.

But the summer of 1932 in Los Angeles is a busy one: star-studded picnic cookouts, the Olympic Games, demanding bosses. Not to mention the murder of Scottie Merlot, the head of the props department who was helping them track down their magical prop to better understand their powers.

Will they manage to solve Scottie’s murder and find their spellbook in time to prevent some seriously powerful damage?
