Everyone is abuzz this Halloween season, but no one is more excited than Clarissa about her new job as manager at the Cat Café, especially just in time for the Halloween fundraiser, The Black Cat Ball. Customers are already lining up at the door to get a glimpse of Jinx, their newest foster cat who is reputed to be cursed.

Clarissa isn’t convinced there is such a thing as a cursed cat, but bad luck starts happening right after Jinx arrives. Money goes missing. A mysterious guest arrives to stir the pot, and everyone’s suddenly pointing fingers.

Determined to save his reputation, Jinx and the other cats band together as they realize the humans are missing important clues.

Can they nudge Clarissa in the right direction and nab the culprit before he or she gets away? Perhaps handsome police officer Cody Shelton has some tricks up of his own that might help Clarissa this Halloween?

Behind the Writing of Halloween Hi-Jinx

Tell us about the background for the theme, what inspired it or why you wanted to write in this setting, or with play with these tropes?

I love cats and have always imagined what my cats must be saying and thinking! So I thought – wouldn’t it be fun to write a series of mysteries told in part from the pets’ point of view? There is a “cat cafe” in my town that promotes adoption of shelter cats, so I put two-and-two together, and with Halloween (one of my favorite holidays), poof! The book was born.

Are any of your characters based on real people you know?

Yes – the cats!

Which of the side characters would you love to explore more, or turn into a main character in another series?

I’m writing 6 books for this series through 2023. Each of them will feature a heroine and a cat connected with the Cat Cafe.

What special knowledge or research was required to write this book?

I don’t think someone not familiar with cats could have written this story!
