Behind the Writing of Murder at the Midnight Ball
Tell us about the background for the theme, what inspired it or why you wanted to write in this setting, or with play with these tropes?
When I finished A Lady Thea Mystery, I knew there was more that could be explored in the same world as the original series, but I wanted to look into other characters’ stories. I’ve always loved the Edwardian and Pre-World War I era, so being able to explore more of that time period was fun.
Which of the side characters would you love to explore more, or turn into a main character in another series?
I think I would like to explore Vivien Prescott-Pryce more in the future. She’s been a side character in both A Lady Thea Mystery and A Prescott House Mystery, but has had an influence on the main characters of both series. It would also be interesting to explore Dorothea Craven Seton, Vivien’s younger sister, who died several years prior to both series, but also had a strong influences over everyone.
Was there something major that happened in your personal life while writing this?
My grandparents had both just passed away when I started writing this book. I mostly wrote it while being in the car going back and forth down to help my mom deal with settling their affairs.
