Behind the Writing of Antiques, Artifacts & Alibis
Which of the side characters would you love to explore more, or turn into a main character in another series?
In “Antiques, Artifacts & Alibis,” the sleuth, Libby Ballard, meets a wealthy computer genius named Sam Collins. I look forward to developing a romance between Libby and Sam over the course of the series.
What special knowledge or research was required to write this book?
My heroine, Libby Ballard, is the director of a small-town history museum. While I was writing this book, I interviewed two people about their work in museums. I’m a former reporter and, although I don’t go into great detail about museum operation, I wanted to accurately portray Libby’s work life. In addition, in this book Libby mentions that her interest in history began with a trip to the Smithsonian, where she saw the exhibit of First Ladies’ dresses. I emailed the Smithsonian to make sure that the exhibit would have been on display when she said she visited as a child. (It was!)
What do you hope readers will take away from this story?
I hope “Antiques, Artifacts & Alibis” will provide readers with a happy escape from real life. Although there is (of course) the occasional murder in Dogwood Springs, the core story of the series is that of a woman rebuilding her life in a sweet small town with the help of wonderful friends and a lovable golden retriever.
