Behind the Writing of Inheriting Murder
Tell us about character traits that were fun or hard for you to include in the book.
My protagonist, Landry Burke, has anxiety. She has some coping mechanisms to help her when she feels a panic attack coming on. I suffer with anxiety as well and I wanted to portray her panic attacks as closely to what happens to most people with this condition. That was a little nerve wracking since I’ve read other accounts of panic attacks that just did not resonate for me and my experience with them. A fun trait that she has is that she is extremely clumsy. I have a niece who has been that way her entire life and we have gotten many laughs over the years because of it. That was fun to incorporate in the story.
What playlist did you listen to while creating this book?
I love music from the 70’s and 80’s. For this book, my playlist included songs by Fleetwood Mac Van Halen, Elton John, Boston and Lionel Richie.
Which of the side characters would you love to explore more, or turn into a main character in another series?
The side character that my readers are always begging for is Ms. Millie. She is a hoot! She brings the humor to the book and I love writing her scenes. I was raised in a tiny, country town in the South and she is a mixture of all of the wonderful older ladies that were in my life then. They said what they meant and meant what they said. They looked after and protected all of the children in the community but they also would spank you just like your Momma if you needed it. I really do love the character.
