Behind the Writing of The Curious Corpse in the Cavern

Which of the side characters would you love to explore more, or turn into a main character in another series?

I’ve already started outlining a story about Misty’s feline sidekicks, Floofus and Doofus, on their very own adventure without their human mother. The cats will be staying at a lakeside retreat, in the joint care of some rather ‘unusual’ arty types. One of whom just so happens to be a murderer…

Was there something major that happened in your personal life while writing this?

Yes, poor Doofus passed away on my birthday in the summer of 2022 at the terribly young age of just four. It was too painful to write about him for a number of weeks, but when a good friend reminded me that he was being immortalised in Misty’s stories, I just knew I had to keep writing about his imaginary crime fighting adventures.

Are any of your characters based on real people you know?

The human characters in The Misty Milton Mysteries all have one or two traits that have been borrowed from friends, neighbors, and family members. However, Misty’s feline family, Doofus and Floofus, genuinely are two of my very own cats – they look and act exactly the same in real life as they do in my stories. I’ll feature more of my pets in future books, as I’m sure it will be easier to find room for a lurcher, an African Grey parrot and a couple of gerbils in Misty’s lovely beach cottage than it is in my little house!
